The Tired Wagon Wheel

Artist Statement  : The concept for this sculpture was inspired by cabinets of curiosity. The work I created was dedicated to the chapter I read in “To Have and To Hold” about bibliomaniacs. The first artifact is a glass book with a leather bind, and water colored pages without words. I want this to visually communicate, that books are not only ways of learning, but they are artworks as well. Furthermore, the next artwork I created is a wagon wheel that has seen better days. This is referring to when one of the bibliomaniacs moved homes and had to carry 700 wagon loads of books to his new home. The different wood on the spokes of the tire represents new wood replacing the old wood, as it falls off throughout the ride.
